Silk Sarees
Silk is a natural protein fiber and is obtained from cocoons made by the larvae of mulberry silkworm. It was the most coveted fabric in the ancient world. Even today an expensive special silk saree is a must in every woman’s wardrobe. Ancient looms making silk sarees have their own royal stories to tell. For every mood there is a color and design that can enthrall a woman.

.In India, the famous Benarasi silk from north and Kanjeevaram from south take the names from the towns where the weavers generally make them. Today the maximum silk saree production is in Varanasi (Benaras). Most of the Khinchabs and Amru are created here in dim lights and for months for NRI and rich Indian brides.
The Khinchabs have intricate zari work which is filled keeping the silk fabric in the backdrop. The Amru brocades have silk weaves and are distinct called Tanchoi . Bright colors like red orange and yellow are mainly used to make it look better. An Amru brocade does not have zari thread in it.
In south Indian town of Kanjeevaram in Tamil Nadu, silk sarees are made by the toiling weavers for generations. The Kornad sarees are well know products of this place. Pure white, contrasted with maroon, green and red too make up the lovely color schemes to bring out original designs. The other south Indian silk sarees towns include Mysore and Chamundi where priceless pieces have left the looms for festive occasions over the seven seas.
